As we learned this fall, Exodus is all about YHWH establishing his resume with the Israelites. From beginning to end YHWH makes it clear that he is "the God of steadfast love and faithfulness who brought you up out of the land of Egypt out of the house of bondage." He is the God who loves them, protects them, and guides them through their journey.
In fact, all of Scripture is a testimony to God working out his power and providence though steadfast love and faithfulness towards his people.
One of the purposes of Scripture is to establish this testimony of faithfulness so that we might place our trust and hope in him in every situation.
And that's important as Trinity and Redemption enter 2018.
For the past ten years, God has been a God of steadfast love and faithfulness towards Trinity. Over the years, Trinity Hinsdale has been experiencing and extending the life-changing love of Jesus Christ in our homes, our workplaces, and our communities. As a part of that, Trinity Hinsdale started Trinity Palos just over five years ago.
Last year, God proved himself faithful through the relaunch of Trinity Palos as Redemption. This past year we trained our first elders and a Women's Shepherding Team.
Most recently, we saw his steadfast love and faithfulness in not only meeting, but exceeding, our budget needs - miraculously.
God's resume with our congregations is strong! That's important as we head into 2018 and beyond.
We have big plans for 2018!
This year, Trinity Hinsdale will move from our long-time home in The Community House to a new home in the Hinsdale Seventh-Day Adventist Church. We will have lots more room to grow, and an incredible new space for our kids.
This year, Redemption Church will call a new pastor to lead the congregation forward in the Southwest suburbs.
This year, our family will move to Washington DC to develop a ministry on Capitol Hill for the PCA through Ministry To State.
Proverbs reminds us that, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps Proverbs 16:9)."
We have plans for our church, and we have plans for our lives.
Even though we have plans, we have little idea what the future holds. There will doubtless be many unexpected situations throughout the year. Some of those may bring confusion, suffering, and even deep sadness. There may even be a situation or two that seem insurmountable and hopeless.
Thankfully, we do not trust in an unknown God with misplaced hope. We trust in a God of steadfast love and faithfulness who has proven himself worthy of all our hope.
Welcome to 2018, everyone!
The LORD reigns here, too.
